ILS Athletes of the Week! Keep up the hard work Bulldogs!

🎉 September Athlete of the Month 🎉
🏃♀️ Josephine Furman – 9th Grade, Varsity Cross Country
Freshman phenom Josephine Furman tore up the cross-country courses in September, earning her spot as Athlete of the Month! Competing in her first varsity season, Josephine showed incredible growth — improving in every race, setting new personal records, and becoming one of the top contributors on the team.
Her secret weapon? Mindset.
“The day before a race I look at athletic.net and check out other racers’ times. I don’t use negative self-talk — I stay positive, focus on what could go wrong for others, and capitalize when it does.”
Josephine shines both on the course and in the classroom, setting a stellar example of what it means to be a student-athlete. When asked what cross country means to her, she shared:
“This sport is one of my favorites — probably because we’re in season right now! I really like the people and look forward to practice with my teammates. We laugh and have fun, even though running isn’t always fun. But I love to race and be competitive. There’s lots of good social and physical stuff at practice.”
Whether it’s a tough workout or an early morning, Josephine always shows up with a positive attitude and a big smile — a true embodiment of D.A.W.G.S. athletics.
💙 Special shoutout from Josephine to her sister Elizabeth Furman:
“I want to thank Elizabeth because she pushes me the most. Without her motivating me, I can’t do my best.”
Way to go, Josephine! Keep running strong and leading with heart. 🐾

A community survey was conducted by the Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Educational Service District (COPESD) in 2024.
Of the 1,207 respondents, 94% agreed that COPESD’s plans to enhance and expand career and technical education (CTE) opportunities in its three counties were a good idea. You can view the survey here at https://bit.ly/COPESDsurvey.
On Tuesday, November 4, COPESD residents will vote on a proposed CTE millage that would fund the creation and expansion of CTE/vocational programs in our schools. Learn more about this proposal, including the potential impact on property taxes, by visiting https://www.cteforcop.org/.
