Welcome to SmartMusic® -- Enjoy practicing with professional accompaniments featuring authentic Basso Continuo, Full Orchestra, Piano, Jazz Trios and even Pop/Rock bands! Our incredibly wide selection includes the most comprehensive list of contest and recital titles, classical pieces, movie themes, songs from musical theater, plus Jazz, Pop, Rock, Country, Religious and Holiday favorites. New with SmartMusic 10.0 are Band and Orchestra titles.

SmartMusic requires a working microphone.

Install SmartMusic

 

1. To prepare for the installation, disable any Firewall and Anti-Virus software, and be sure that you are logged in with administrator privileges. Laptop users should disable any power-saving features prior to running SmartMusic.

 

2. Insert the CD in the appropriate drive. The SmartMusic Installer will automatically run. If your system does not automatically begin the installation, you can access the installation by double clicking the SETUP application located on the CD.

 

3. Follow installation instructions as they appear. It is recommended that you restart your computer after installation if you have other MakeMusic, Inc. products installed on your system.

 

Set Up Your Stereo and Microphone

 

1. Connect your powered speakers or headphones to your computer’s Line-Out Jack. (Typically GREEN)

 

2. Place the speakers in your practice space so that you are positioned evenly between them. You should be far enough out of the way of the speakers to avoid interference with the microphone pickup.

 

NOTE: USB speakers are not recommended for use with SmartMusic.

 

3. Connect the Microphone to your computer’s Mic-In Jack. (Typically PINK)

 

Connect the SmartMusic Foot Pedal

 

Connect the SmartMusic Foot Pedal to an available USB port before running SmartMusic. The SmartMusic Foot Pedal provides convenient, hands-free operation for the basic features of SmartMusic. Purchase a Foot Pedal from the SmartMusic Website (http://redirect.makemusic.com/?id=2) or by calling our Toll Free customer support number 1-800-843-2066.

 

Test-run SmartMusic

 

NOTE:  Close all other applications while SmartMusic is running. SmartMusic requires the full dedication of the sound hardware.

 

1. Place the SmartMusic Microphone as indicated for your instrument:

 

 

Be careful when attaching a microphone to your instrument. The microphone cord should be positioned in a way that prevents it from being stepped on or wrapped around items in your practice studio. Always remember to unclip the microphone after your practice session.

 

NOTE: Built-in microphones are not recommended for use with SmartMusic.

 

2. Launch SmartMusic

Launch SmartMusic by double-clicking its icon from the desktop. Use the Setup Wizard to configure and test connections to the Speakers, Microphone, Foot Pedal, and MIDI Keyboard.

 

3. Open a SmartMusic Accompaniment

Choose Open SmartMusic Accompaniment… from the File Menu. Explore the SmartMusic repertoire library by Instrument, Jazz, Vocal, or Music On Screen titles by double-clicking the various folders. When you find a title, select it and click the Open button. Choose a title from the Samples folder if you do not have a SmartMusic Subscription.

 

4. Check Your Tuning

Click the Tuner button. Select your Instrument from the dropdown menu. Play a few notes to tune your instrument.

 

5. Click Play

 

SmartMusic Subscription

 

Be sure to visit the SmartMusic website (http://www.smartmusic.com) to purchase a SmartMusic Subscription. If you already bought a starter kit box from an authorized dealer or submitted payment to your teacher for a code, simply connect to the Internet and run SmartMusic for on-screen instructions to activate your SmartMusic Subscription. If your teacher gave you a code to buy a SmartMusic subscription direct, go to http://www.smartmusic.com and enter your code to buy your subscription.

 

An on-going Internet connection is not required when practicing with SmartMusic. Internet access is required to activate your subscription, to receive and submit assignments, and to download new titles.
