Personal Best Behavior

Concert Behaviors

School Band; Community Band; Symphony; Classical Ensemble;

When attending one of these concerts it is proper to sit quietly and pay attention while a group is performing. This is sometimes difficult as not all of these organizations have a symphony hall or opera house setting to perform in.

When in a symphony hall or opera house, the lights indicate when it is appropriate for the audience to quiet down and prepare for the concert.  In a gym setting there are only some small hints to look for; the conductor preparing to speak, a group moving into body position to perform, the conductor addressing a performing group, etc.

Holding a concert in a gym makes it difficult to know when the expected behavior needs to change. When a gym becomes a concert hall, please make a strong effort to demonstrate behavior that is appreciate for the setting.

Jazz Band; Swing Choir; Blues group;

When attending one of these style concerts, it is appropriate to clap after a solo even when music is still being performed. It is appropriate for the audience to tap their foot and move quietly with the music, while still showing respect and attention to the performance.

Highly amplified band; Rock band; Dance band; Coffee house band;

When attending one of these style concerts, noise is welcome. They have the power to be louder than their audience. Singing and dancing while the group is performing is usually encouraged.
