Change in Transportation Arrangements Letter

January 7, 2010

Dear Parents/Guardians of our Inland Lakes Students,

Over the last few years there has been a drastic increase in the changes parents
make, regarding the transportation plans for their child(ren), at the end of the
school day. We have also seen a significant increase in the number of children that
use our bus transportation to attend after school parties and sleepovers! Instead
of 60 students on a bus there will be 70-80 students trying to ride the bus that
evening. As our buses have a limited student capacity, these changes create
unexpected problems each day. With decreased funding from the state, adding buses
to accommodate these last minute changes is not possible. In order to alleviate
this confusion and keep our buses safe for our students, the Inland Lakes Schools
District has implemented a new policy. Parents will need to designate a maximum of
two drop off locations for their child(ren) after school.

At the start of second semester, which is January 25, 2010, please remember:
* To have selected a limit of two after school bus destinations (example: one home
and one daycare location) and report them to your child's school.
* Students will be required to ride from school on their assigned buses (we can't
accommodate sleepovers and / or parties).
* Once students have boarded a bus, they will not be removed. Please do not attempt
to send someone to take your child off a bus, or from a non-designated stop.
* If you need to make a permanent change in your two designated choices, please call
your child's building secretary (238-6868; High School, Mrs. Benson ext # 1, Middle
School, Mrs. Gable ext # 2, Elementary, Mrs. Walin ext # 3). These numbers will
also work in the event of extraordinary circumstances.

A few other reminders are:
* Bus drivers may not take directions from a student, to change their bus schedule,
for any reason.
* If you have an emergency, call the school to arrange for pick-up at school (at the
designated pick-up point) or meet your child(ren) at the designated bus stop.
* Remember for non-emergency pick-up arrangements at school, please call before 2:00
p.m. No changes will be accepted after 2:00 p.m.
* If you have more than one child attending different schools and you are picking up
only one, please let your other children know so siblings do not panic when one is
not on the bus!!

We know change is often difficult but hope by explaining the dilemma we face,
parents and/or guardians will help us in this new endeavor and work together to
level the number of students on buses each night and keep our students, your
children, as safe as can be.

Sincerely,
