Inland Lakes High School students recently took a moment or two for
the planet. The students have been discussing recycling, resource
management, and wise environmental stewardship.

The Inland Lakes Performing Arts Class will be presenting The Return
of the Fabulous Fable Factory and A Great Western Melodrama on Friday
May 9th at 7 p.m. in the middle school gymnasium. The class will also
be having an encore presentation on Saturday May 10th at 7 p.m. in
the middle school gymnasium as well.

Inland Lakes School District presented the first annual Art for the
Hungry at 7 p.m. on Friday April 18th. “The results were
remarkable” said Erin Carnes, ILS Art Teacher. The event was
attended by over 270+ people with a crew of 10 volunteers under the
direction of Mrs. Carnes pulling it all together. The evening raised
funds for The Joy Fellowship food pantry and ILS Fine Arts Program.
Student work at all grade levels was on display with elementary
students receiving a certificate of partcipation and middle and high
Ecology and Physical Science texbooks are available for review in the High School Office beginning April 15th. These books are the ones the science department is hoping to adopt for the upcoming school year.
Indian River has a new weight room and a new national competitor to
go along with it. Justin Flowers, a sophomore at Inland Lakes High
School won the title of State Equip Power Lifting Champion Saturday
March 1st in Flint, Michigan for the weight class of 132 lbs. If you
do not recognize Justin, it may be because of the new hair dew, he
said, “my hair, may have been the difference in me making the weight
class”.
He represents a core group of lifters from ILHS and joins an elite
Inland Lakes High School in Indian River, Michigan faculty started an
on going conversation about three years ago. The conversation centers
around three questions.
Question #1: What do we want students to learn?
Question #2: How will we know when they have learned it?
Question #3: What do we do when they are not learning it?
Faculty meets on a regular basis in Professional Learning Communities
asking themselves these three questions. The questions resulted in
Juniors and seniors that receive qualifying scores on either the PSAT, PLAN, ACT, or MME test can dual enroll in college courses. There are specific cutoff scores for each test in the areas of Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies that students must reach in order to dual enroll. Eligible students may take courses for which there are no state endorsements, such as computer science, foreign language, history, political science, or psychology, as long as they have taken all sections of one of the tests mentioned above.
